A Considered Approach to Outdoor Lighting

Blue Hour Lighting is led by owner Jarod Halstead, a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer with the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals. Every landscape lighting installation is designed and completed by an in-house team, from the initial plan through final aiming and adjustment.

Licensed and insured

Blue Hour Lighting holds the county and state licenses required in Westchester and Rockland Counties and Connecticut. Dutchess County does not require a license.

The team responsible for the design also handles installation. Blue Hour Lighting does not subcontract its landscape lighting or outdoor sound work.

Workmanship coverage

Every landscape lighting installation includes one year of workmanship coverage. Ongoing maintenance plans are available after the first year.

Landscape Lighting Design and Installation

A well-composed landscape lighting design gives the property depth, definition, and lasting curb appeal without overwhelming it. Blue Hour Lighting uses low-voltage LED lights to illuminate facades, walkways, garden beds, specimen trees, and architectural details with restraint.

Techniques may include architectural lighting, uplighting, path lighting, moonlighting through tree canopies, and subtle garden illumination. Each fixture is selected, placed, aimed, and tuned to suit the setting and highlight your property’s best features. This gives the composition a clear focal point rather than simply adding brightness.

Hardscape Lighting

Hardscape lighting brings a quieter layer of illumination to steps, seat walls, pillars, patios, and paver areas. When integrated properly, fixtures recede into the masonry while helping define gathering spaces after dark.

With 20 years of masonry experience, the Blue Hour Lighting team understands how to place fixtures within stonework with care for both appearance and long-term durability. Recessed into the appropriate joint or detail, the lighting fixtures are functional and discreet.

Outdoor Sound System Design and Installation

Outdoor sound should feel present without calling attention to its source. Blue Hour Lighting designs Sonance outdoor sound systems with garden speakers placed discreetly among planting beds and subwoofers concealed beneath the lawn.

The result is even, balanced coverage throughout the property, allowing music to be enjoyed at a natural volume across patios, lawns, pools, and gardens.

Smart Controls and Lighting Automation

Smart controls make a carefully designed system easier to enjoy. Blue Hour Lighting can integrate outdoor lighting and audio with Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Savant, Lutron, Control4, or Crestron.

Lighting can be scheduled to come on at dusk, adjusted for the season, and set so certain lights dim later in the evening while the rest hold their setting. In addition to being controlled through a timer, if you prefer more control, you have the ability to control all of these systems directly from a switch, your phone, or smart device with an intuitive user interface while still allowing the system to follow the scheduled rhythm of the household.

Commercial Outdoor Lighting

For HOAs, apartment properties, office parks, and municipal grounds, Blue Hour Lighting provides commercial outdoor lighting designed around appearance, visibility, security, and practical nighttime use. Services include energy-efficient exterior lighting and lighting-level assessments to help property owners protect residents and guard against needless liability exposure.

Lighting Maintenance Plans

Landscape lighting changes with the property. Plantings mature, weather affects connections, and fixtures occasionally need to be repositioned or serviced to maintain the original effect.

Most residential maintenance plans include spring and fall visits. During these appointments, Blue Hour Lighting adjusts fixtures affected by plant growth, cleans lenses, replaces lamps as necessary, repairs nicked wiring, and resets controls as needed. Commercial maintenance contracts can include up to four visits annually.

Holiday Lighting

Blue Hour Lighting also provides holiday lighting installation for clients who prefer a complete, professionally managed seasonal display. Installation begins in November, takedown takes place in mid-January, and storage is available for client-owned or Blue Hour Lighting-provided décor.

Holiday lighting installation dates are limited each season. Clients are encouraged to reserve their installation by October 1.

Detailed Plans Before Installation

Every project begins with a close look at the property and a discussion of the client’s priorities. Blue Hour Lighting then prepares a personalized lighting plan and written estimate before work begins.
The design plan gives clients a clear understanding of the proposed layout, the areas being illuminated, and the scope of the installation. It also provides a solid foundation for the work that follows.

Proper Electrical Planning

Low-voltage lighting uses 12-volt fixtures and wiring, while the transformer requires an appropriate exterior GFCI circuit. Many homes already have a suitable outlet. When they do not, Blue Hour Lighting’s in-house electrician can complete the necessary electrical work to prepare the system for installation.

Regardless of what is needed for an appropriate setup, Blue Hour Lighting has the expertise and means to make sure your new lighting setup is “to code” and highlights your home or property just the way you imagined. The practical details are addressed early so that the finished system is not only visually refined, but properly supported from the start.

One Installation Process for Light and Sound

When a project includes both landscape lighting and outdoor audio, planning them together can reduce disruption to the property. Blue Hour Lighting designs the wire runs, trenching, transformers, speakers, and controls as one coordinated installation.

As a Sonance authorized dealer and installer, Blue Hour Lighting can incorporate outdoor sound into the lighting design without treating it as a separate afterthought.

Professional-Grade Fixtures and Controls

The materials selected for an outdoor lighting installation shape how the system looks and performs over time. Blue Hour Lighting installs professional-grade LED fixtures from Kichler, CAST Lighting, FX Luminaire, Brilliance LED, Auroralight, Unique Lighting Systems, and Infinity Lighting. Lutron is available for controls, and Sonance is used for outdoor audio.

Many available fixtures carry a lifetime factory warranty, depending on the product selected.

Material quality is especially important in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas, where fixtures must withstand changing seasons and prolonged exposure to the elements. Brass, copper, and stainless steel offer greater long-term durability than the cast aluminum fixtures commonly sold through big-box retailers. Blue Hour Lighting specifies fixture materials clearly within each estimate so clients can make informed decisions before installation.

The Blue Hour Lighting Process

A good outdoor lighting project should feel organized from the first conversation through final adjustment.

Consultation

One of our dedicated and experienced professionals walks the property with the client to understand how the outdoor spaces are used after sundown, assess the existing landscape and architecture, and review your home’s electrical capacity.

Design and estimate

Blue Hour Lighting prepares a detailed lighting plan and written estimate based on the consultation.

Contract and deposit

Once the design and scope are approved and the agreement is signed, fixtures are ordered, and we schedule an installation date.

Installation

The in-house crew completes the trenching, wire runs, transformer installation, fixture placement, and any outdoor audio work.

5

Final tuning

After installation, each fixture is aimed and adjusted to refine beam angles, balance the lighting across the property, and achieve the intended effect.
