Holiday Lighting Installation in Westchester, NY
Blue Hour Lighting provides full-service holiday lighting for homes throughout Westchester County and areas of Connecticut. We manage the display from the initial design visit through installation and seasonal removal.
Why Book Holiday Lighting Early
Holiday lighting installation dates are limited each season. We encourage clients to reserve their installation by October 1 so we have time to plan the display before November installation begins.
The Stages of a Holiday Lighting Season
Each holiday lighting project is planned around the property and the homeowner’s preferences. These stages apply whether you provide your own lights or use lights provided by Blue Hour Lighting.
Book by October 1
Booking by October 1 leaves time for the planning stage before November installation begins.
The Design Visit
We visit the property and walk the grounds with you to determine which areas and features will be included in the display. The scope is established during the visit, including the materials and placement for the display. Once this is approved, the installation date is confirmed.
Mid-January Take-Down
Once the holiday season ends, we return in mid-January to remove the display. The lights and decorations are taken down carefully and prepared for storage or returned to the homeowner, depending on the arrangement.
Optional Off-Season Storage
Holiday lighting materials can be stored between seasons through our optional storage service. This keeps the lights and decorations organized and ready for the next installation, without taking up space at home. Storage is available for an additional cost.
Who Hires Professional Holiday Lighting?
Homeowners turn to Blue Hour Lighting when they want a complete, professionally managed seasonal display without handling the installation and take-down themselves. Some clients already own lights and decorations they want to use each year. Others prefer to have Blue Hour Lighting provide the lighting materials as part of the service.

A Holiday Display Planned for Your Property
Every property has its own layout and features, so no two displays look the same. A holiday display can focus on the front entry and landscaping or extend throughout the entire property. The design visit gives us an opportunity to look at the property with you, discuss what you have in mind, and determine which areas will be included.

Frequently Asked Questions About Holiday Lights
Can you hire someone to put up Christmas lights?
Yes. Blue Hour Lighting provides holiday lighting installation for homes throughout Westchester County and the surrounding area.
When should I book holiday lights for the season?
Holiday lights are best booked early, because installation dates are limited each season. Booking by October 1 leaves time for the planning stage before November installation begins.
Can holiday lights be added to a property that already has landscape lighting?
Blue Hour Lighting installs both holiday lighting and low-voltage landscape lighting, so holiday displays can be planned around an existing landscape lighting system. The two can work together without changing the permanent lighting installation.
What does it cost to have Christmas lights put up?
Every property requires a different scope of work based on the owner’s preferences and the layout of the property. The estimate considers the size and areas of the display, the lights being used (yours or ours), and whether you choose off-season storage. During the design visit, the Blue Hour Lighting team gathers all of this information to prepare an accurate estimate.
Can I use my own holiday lights?
Yes. We can install holiday lights you already own or provide the lights for your display. If you have existing strands, wreaths, garland, or other decorations you’d like to use, we’ll review them during the design visit and incorporate them into the plan where appropriate.
Where are holiday lights stored between seasons?
Holiday lights can be stored by the homeowner or through our optional off-season storage service, which carries an additional cost. Homeowners who store their own lights can keep them coiled and labeled by area in a dry place, ready for the next season.
How do professionals install Christmas lights?
A professional installation starts with a plan for the property. It identifies the features included in the display and how the lights will follow the lines of the home, landscaping, walkways, and other areas. During installation, each element is placed accordingly, so the finished display feels consistent across the property.
What parts of a home can be decorated with holiday lights?
Holiday displays often focus on the front entry, walkways, landscaping, and other areas visible from the street. Common choices include lighted garland and wreaths, shrubs and foundation plantings, small evergreens, and walkway edges. The areas included in the display are determined with the owner during the design visit.
What makes a holiday light display look professional?
A professional-looking holiday display starts with a plan for the property as a whole. The placement, spacing, and scale of the lights are considered in relation to the home’s architecture, landscaping, and other features. The result is a display that feels balanced and consistent across the property.
How is holiday lighting different from landscape lighting?
Landscape lighting is designed around the property’s permanent architecture, trees, plantings, and outdoor spaces, with fixtures and placement intended to remain year-round. Holiday lighting is a temporary, seasonal installation that offers greater flexibility for decorative and expressive lighting, giving the property a different character for the season. The two can also be thoughtfully coordinated to create a cohesive look.
How should I prepare for the design visit?
The most useful preparation is to think about which parts of the property matter most during the season, such as the front entry, the walk, or plantings visible from the street. It also helps to have any lights you already own available to discuss and to consider whether you want off-season storage. We’ll walk the property together and use those preferences to determine the scope of the display.
Can a holiday display change from one year to the next?
Yes. A homeowner might keep the lights along the front entry and the walk while adding a new feature in a later season, such as a lit wreath or a group of shrubs near the house. The lighting plan provides a record of the display from one season to the next, making it easier to plan changes or repeat the same design the following year.
Is it worth hiring a professional to install holiday lights?
For homeowners who prefer to have the planning, installation, and removal handled for them, professional holiday lighting can be a practical option. During a busy holiday season, having one big task taken care of leaves more time for everything else.
