How We Lay Out a System on Your Property

Speaker positions are planned during the free on-site consultation. A dedicated professional walks the property with you, noting where people gather, how far the grounds extend, and where the property borders its neighbors. Speaker placement takes the landscape plantings, the terrain, the walls, and the rest of the property into account.
From that walkthrough, Blue Hour Lighting develops a layout with satellites located around gathering areas, seating, circulation paths, and pool zones, so music stays at a natural volume without reaching neighboring homes.
The subwoofer is installed below grade, typically with only a vent cap visible at the surface, and provides the lower frequencies and depth. Speaker count, spacing, and the Sonance series are determined by the ground the system has to cover and the shape of the property.

Even Volume From End to End

Several smaller speakers distributed across a property produce a more comfortable result than one loud pair mounted to the house. For many projects, satellites are spaced approximately 10 to 30 feet apart, depending on the Sonance series, the terrain, and the landscape plantings around them. Each one contributes at a moderate level. The layout determines how those contributions overlap, so the volume feels consistent from the patio to the far side of the lawn.

Hardware That Disappears Into the Landscape Plantings

Sonance satellite speakers are compact and designed to be located low in planting beds, along borders, and among groundcover. Their housings blend with soil and mulch, and once the landscape plantings fill in around them, the speakers are difficult to spot. Each one is weather-resistant and rated for year-round outdoor use.

Volume Matched to the Property

Every system is sized and placed for the property to support natural, comfortable volume for conversation and everyday use. Background music sounds natural and is heard at a comfortable level from any seat. Speaker count, spacing, amplifiers, and subwoofer placement are all design decisions made before installation. Levels can also be adjusted from a phone, and settings can be fine-tuned for the way the space is used. A distributed layout also means less of the sound carries to neighboring properties.

Speakers for Patios & Seating Areas

A focused area such as a patio, a fire pit, or a hot tub can be covered with a smaller system. The Sonance Patio 4.1 system includes four staked satellites and one buried subwoofer, covering approximately 1,000 square feet with one amplifier. A larger amplifier can support up to eight satellites and a second subwoofer.

Audio for Larger Grounds

When the sound has to reach a pool, a lawn, and garden areas beyond a single terrace, the layout expands. The Sonance Garden Series pairs eight satellites with a buried subwoofer and covers up to 3,500 square feet. The system is expandable to sixteen satellites and two subwoofers as the property requires. For larger properties and longer cable runs, the Sonance Landscape Series uses 70V/100V distribution. A 70V/100V system distributes audio at a higher voltage, allowing the signal to travel greater distances efficiently. Each speaker uses a transformer that adjusts the signal to the appropriate operating level, and a properly scoped system can accommodate future speaker additions when the original design includes the necessary capacity.

Direct-burial cable routed through narrow trenches and joined with outdoor-rated waterproof connectors.
Installation and positioning.
Each speaker is staked or placed in a planting bed, the subwoofer is installed below grade, and cable is buried.

Levels are balanced across all zones so the volume is even throughout the property at a natural listening level.

Yes, the pool and the patio can each be set up as an independent zone, controlled and adjusted separately from any other area. The pool can play at a different volume than the patio, or stay off entirely while the patio plays background music. Zone count is determined when the plan is prepared, since it directly affects the amplifier the system needs.
